IRA Charitable Rollover

Smart Giving Through Your IRA

If you are 70½ or older, you can make an IRA charitable rollover gift (also known as a Qualified Charitable Deduction) to CSU and lower your income tax. Beginning at age 73, these gifts can help satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution (RMF).

IRA charitable rollover gifts do not qualify for a charitable deduction, but you can avoid taxes on transfers of up to $111,000 per individual from your IRA to CSU in 2026. You can reduce your taxable income whether you itemize or take the standard deduction. This is especially beneficial if you do not need the proceeds from your IRA.

Under the Legacy IRA Act, you can make a one-time, tax-free distribution from an IRA to establish a charitable remainder trust or gift annuity, receiving cash back throughout your lifetime.

How It Works

Contact your IRA plan administrator to directly transfer a gift from your IRA to CSU. You can direct your distribution to be used for a specific program, scholarship, fund, or college at CSU.

If you have any questions about an IRA charitable rollover gift, please contact us. We would be happy to assist you.
