CSU Mourns the Passing of Former Trustee Sam Miller

Posted March 11, 2019 in Press Releases

Dear Students, Faculty, Staff, Alumni and Friends:

Cleveland State University mourns the passing of Sam Miller.

Where would Cleveland be without him? It’s almost impossible to imagine. His impact on this city over the past century cannot be overstated. A true civic leader, Sam Miller led by example — and the example he set was one of uncommon decency, deep empathy and unflagging generosity.

He improved everything he touched, including Cleveland State University. Sam Miller was a CSU Trustee from 1999 to 2009, a decade of unprecedented forward momentum for the University. He also provided scholarships for countless CSU students through his outstanding support of our Radiance and Moses Cleaveland Scholars programs. We will forever be grateful for his indelible contributions to our campus community.

We extend our deepest condolences to the Miller family and to his many friends.

Sam Miller made CSU better. He made Cleveland better. He made us better.

May his memory be a blessing.

Sincerely,
David H. Gunning II, Esq.
Chair
CLEVELAND STATE UNIVERSITY BOARD OF TRUSTEES
