CSU Professor and legal trailblazer Lizabeth Ann (Liz) Moody made sure that her legacy would leave an indelible mark on the lives of CSU Law students. Just prior to her passing in December of 2023, Lizbeth established the Lizbeth A. Moody Endowed Scholarship through her estate, which supports aspiring law students pursue their legal careers. Read more below on their career aspirations and words of gratitude for the scholarships they received.

I am a first-year law student hoping to pursue a career in white-collar crime. Here at the CSU College of Law, I want to build strong analytical skills that I can take into a career, resolving matters of financial misconduct and other corporate offenses. As a first-generation law student, I am a part of the First-Generation Lawyers Association on campus. As I enter my second year, I want to join a legal journal and contribute to research and publication that will make a difference in our local community and beyond. Recently, I became affiliated with the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland. As a Cleveland native, I am eager to build a lasting relationship with the Legal Aid Society to always give back to the community in each phase of life.
I want to express my sincere appreciation for the Lizabeth Moody Scholarship I received for my law school journey. I can confidently say that I would not be enrolled if not for this support. Not only does this scholarship alleviate the financial burden of pursuing a legal career, but it has reaffirmed my belief in the kindness of the Cleveland community and CSU alumni. Since my sophomore year of high school, I have had to work multiple jobs to pay for college. It took a toll on my ability to fully perform scholastically. However, this past semester, I could entirely focus on my studies and received the highest GPA I have ever achieved. Thank you for helping me to reach this milestone.

The type of legal career I aspire to pursue gives a voice to those who are unheard. Pubic interest is the path toward making that an attainable goal for me. There are too many people facing homelessness and not enough compassion to put an end to it. I believe I can help combat the daily poverty by learning about affordable housing. I am a member of CSU's Black Student Law Association, First Generation Law Students, and the Homeless Impact Project. My goal is to assist in the fight to provide equitable legal assistance to those who cannot attain access. With the launch of the Law School's Wrongful Conviction Clinic, I hope to gain insight into how to dissolve the recidivism rate and help to provide a route from poverty back to being a member of society.
I want to express my gratitude for the scholarship I received. It allowed me to pay my rent, lessening the financial stress on my wife. As I journey through law school, my wife is taking the lead. The scholarship covered a few major expenses and helped us through the semester. Receiving a scholarship also means someone is willing to take a chance on you and your education. I appreciate that and how it has allowed me to focus on my studies.
